Researcher spotlight #33 Camile Maria Costa Correa

A short talk with Camile about her research and interests.

Hi Camile, what is your background and job role at AU?

Brazilian, bachelor in Psychology, master, PhD and postdocs in Neuroscience. At AU I am a Postdoctoral fellow, department of Food Science.

What are your main areas of research?

We are researching multisensory integration, specifically in Cobelab, how learning smell develops over time

Are you involved with any teaching at the moment?

No

How did you hear about Cognition and Behavior Lab?

In my previous postdoc we used Cobelab facilities for a large scale study. My advisor knew about Cobelab and he recommended that we used the multiple user rooms to run computer based tasks simultaneously.

Have you used the Lab? If so, what are the benefits for researchers?

I used the multiple user rooms when we ran a study on Metacognition. The advantage of using Cobelab back there was that we could collect data from a big sample in lab controlled conditions. Now we are using a simple lab to test and retest participants' performance in learning/ improving their sense of smell.

Is there a particular recommendation you would like to pass on to other researchers? Something you wish you had known before you started, or just a useful trick.

Cobelab has its own way of running experiments (from ethics to payments). Be attentive to the forms available and all the steps required. It is worth spending some time understanding the process, so that your data collection will run more efficiently.

Could you recommend one academic book to fellow colleagues that you think is of great interest?

Principles of Neuroscience, by Eric Kandel (but I am biased) and The Drunkard's Walk, by Leonard Mlodinow (this one is less academic, but still very interesting).

Away from your research, what do you enjoy doing?

Dancing, learning new languages, travelling.

Finally, which Associated Researcher would you like to see under 'Spotlight' next time?

Riccardo Fusaroli or Nikoline Hyldelund
