Studying business in Herning - 5 things I loved about it

Hey there! I am Simran (but everyone calls me Simi). I studied my Bachelor’s degree at Aarhus BSS in Herning at the Department of Business Development and Technology (BTECH) – and I want to share the 5 things I loved about studying at BTECH in Herning with you.

Aarhus or Herning? What's the difference?

At a first glance, you may get confused by the fact that Aarhus University is also present in the city of Herning. BTECH in Herning is not a separate or different university – it is simply a campus of Aarhus University, just located in another location.

"The Herning campus offers a great and supportive environment for international students as well as Danes"

5 things I loved about studying at Aarhus BSS in Herning

1. The environment

Campus is located in the vicinity of Herning and is surrounded by lovely nature and is only a 20-minute walk away from Herning City. During busy days at uni when my study group and I had been couped up in one of those group rooms, we would take a break by walking in the park-like area at uni.

There are some really nice pathways built in the area around Herning campus and we even have a lake. Just being able to switch off from a busy project, revising for exams or just a long day later, taking a stroll with your friends around the lake would be so refreshing and destressing.

Not only is Herning campus surrounded by nature, but we have two art museums and a locked escape room literally down the road.

2. The people

The Herning campus offers a great and supportive environment for international students as well as Danes. The receptionist is amazing and is always there to help students and if you have any doubts, you know that you can always get help.

The professors show great support towards the learning and understanding of their students. I could always walk into their office if I had questions or doubts about topic. The fellow students at campus who come from other courses are always eager to get to know other students and foster a strong network. All in all, you always feel welcome and supported at BTECH.

3. The classes

On campus, I really enjoyed the fact that classes weren’t packed with students as they sometimes can be. This allowed me to get more out of the classes and not be too afraid of asking questions compared to if I was in a class of 200+ students.

"The fellow students [...] are always eager to get to know other students and foster a strong network. All in all, you always feel welcome and supported at BTECH."

4. The semester parties

Semester parties was something we would always look forward too. At the Student House there is always a great vibe during the parties, making sure students stay until the very end. This was also a great way of meeting different students from other courses and make more friends. The Student House would also host other themed parties during the semester, as well as quiz and karaoke nights.

Having the Student House as a place to chill, party the stress away, and making new friends has been one of the highlights of why I loved studying at BTECH as well.

5. Being class representative

I had the opportunity to become Class Representative, which I really enjoyed not only because of the free cake but I also learned a lot from it. I would attend meetings with the Board consisting of different professors, course coordinators, administration, etc., where we would discuss several things, such as:

  • Issues presented by the respective classes
  • Exams
  • Canteen and food – this was quite a popular topic believe it or not!

The Class Representative role allowed me to grow and develop skills which I have used in my work experiences and made my uni life much more than studies.

Of course, this is just a small insight into how great and enjoyable my 3 years in Herning were. I hope that you will give BTECH in Herning a chance to make your years of studying, fun and memorable too!
