Written by Eda Köşk

***Please note: As of the intake 2022, the MSc in Political Science is offered in Danish only***

My name is Eda Köşk. I’m from Turkey. I did my Bachelor’s in Economics and International Relations at Koç University in Istanbul and continued my study adventures with a MSc in Political Science at Aarhus BSS in Aarhus, one of the best experiences of my life.

In this blogpost I'll go through:

Rankings and the well reputed MSc in Political Science at Aarhus BSS

I chose to study in Aarhus University because it is among top 100 universities in the world and there is a wide range of courses offered in the Political Science department. After starting my studies, I was even happier with my decision.

The MSc in Political Science is a flexible Master's programme where you choose relevant seminars during the first, second, and third semesters. I chose ‘Globalisation and World Order’ as the course covers contemporary studies in international relations. Another course I took was ‘Political Data Science’ with which I managed to excel my analytical skills.

In addition, I had the chance to work as a Research Assistant with one of my Professors at Aarhus University. After I graduated from Aarhus BSS, Aarhus University, I started working for Getir (on-demand delivery start-up) in Istanbul as a Growth Specialist. Currently, I am working for ING Turkey as Process Excellence Senior Specialist.

Sunny days and a flat structure at Aarhus BSS

First of all, the campus is incredibly beautiful. You can enjoy the sunny days while sitting by the lake and feeding the ducks. Secondly, there is a flat hierarchical structure in the classes which I like the most about Danish education system.

Informal relationship between students and professors lets the students become more than just listeners and be a part of an open discussion in the lectures where they express their opinions freely.

What makes Aarhus so special?

They say “Aarhus is world’s smallest big city” which cannot be more true. Although, Aarhus is tiny compared to where I come from – Istanbul – it’s incredible how easy it is to find interesting events to fill your days in here. Since the city has many internationals, there are many options for English speakers. And also, don’t forget to experience the spirit of “Hygge” in lovely cafes of Aarhus!

Aarhus is renowned for being a very young and international city. So, it was not hard at all to make friends while studying here. In addition to big annual events such as The Spring Regatta (in Danish: Kapsejladsen) and Aarhus Festival, there is a bunch of smaller social activities at the university. These are great opportunities to make friends and learn about new cultures, don’t miss out!

My top 3 tips to Aarhus:

  • Experience “hygge” at home and in lovely cafes
  • Get an annual pass for ARoS Art Museum and admire the Rainbow Panorama in all seasons!
  • Look for social events – they are mostly free and fun!
