Post Doc position at the National Center for Register-Based Research 931137

 A two-year position as Post Doc in psychiatric epidemiology is vacant from January 1, 2018 at the National Centre for Register-based Research, Department of Economics and Business Economics, Aarhus University.

The position is funded by a grant from AUFF (Aarhus University Research Foundation) for a large-scale research project on postpartum depression (PPD), using an app to collect data on PPD which will be linked to information with Danish population registers. The project partners with an international collaboration lead by the PACT consortium (for further information please visit www.pactforthecure.com).

The position includes both project management and research tasks.

We offer unique opportunities for entering an international collaboration with an overall goal to identify why some women get postpartum depression and others do not. Further, the candidate will be employed at The National Center for Register-based Research, Aarhus University. The center was established in 2000 at Aarhus University under the leadership of Professor Preben Bo Mortensen, the group has grown from 7 to approx. 40 staff members (including students), and has become a leading group in the epidemiology of severe mental disorders. The group covers a broad range of expertise from medicine and statistics to sociology, psychology, and pharmacology.

Together with collaborators at Statens Serum Institut they pioneered the integration of maternal and neonatal blood samples with register data, in order to allow comprehensive studies of environmental and genomic risk factors in a population context (please follow link: ipsych.au.dk)

The Centre maintains a national databank linking all health-related data from the Central Population Register on behalf of the National Board of Health, and also in 2012 established CIRRAU, securing efficient access to all data from Statistics Denmark (http://cirrau.au.dk/data-resources/).


The postdoc must be able to, independently and/or in collaboration with partners, complete studies based on registers combined with data collected through the app-based project. The postdoc is expected to publish research results in international peer-reviewed journals, and communicate results to study participants through the project website.

Project management
The candidate preferably also has documented experience with project management as well as strong communication skills, since the postdoc is further expected to take the role as project manager, to ensure progress and stability of the ongoing data collection through the app-based research project. This will be in close collaboration with principal investigator Associate Professor Trine Munk-Olsen, who leads the Danish part of the project.

Professional background
The candidate is required to have a scientific education on PhD level in Epidemiology or similar topics, with documented experience with epidemiological methods, statistical analyses and data management. As Danish collaborators on the project will include various health professionals, a candidate with a BSc or MSc degree in public health, nursing or related topics would be preferable.

The position may be extended with up to one year, if additional funding is obtained.

Terms of employment
The appointment is in accordance with the Memorandum on Job Structure for Academic Staff at Danish Universities as well as the circular on the Collective Agreement for Academics Employed by the State.
