About the workshop

Companies that work systematically with strategic foresight often perform better than their rivals. Instead of relying on the company’s existing capabilities, the most successful companies such as DHL use strategic foresight to foresee future developments in their industries and develop realistic future scenarios. These scenarios enable the companies to develop strategies that will strengthen the companies’ position in the future.

The Strategic Foresight Research Network at Aarhus BSS has identified three key capabilities that successful companies that regularly outperform their rivals excel at:

  • They build external networks to perceive trends ahead of their competitors.
  • They use scenario planning and system dynamics models to prospect into the future and understand future developments to build an insight advantage.
  • They set aside resources to experiment with new technologies and business models and probe into the future to build a competitive advantage.

At the theme meeting, we will discuss these capabilities, and participants will gain an insight into the many benefits of using strategic foresight.

Speaker

Professor René Rohrbeck forsker i strategi ved Institut for Virksomhedsledelse på Aarhus BSS, Aarhus Universitet. René har skrevet bogen “Corporate foresight – Towards a Maturity Model for the Future Orientation of a firm”, og hans forskning er publiceret i nogle af verdens førende tidsskrifter. Han har rådgivet virksomheder om en lang række emner som fx design af innovation management systems, udvikling og implementering af corporate foresight i virksomheder samt strategisk og økonomisk planlægning af nye forretningsområder. Inden René kom til Aarhus Universitet, arbejdede han seks år i det private erhvervsliv. Først hos Volkswagen, hvor han arbejdede med innovation management og dernæst hos Deutsche Telekom, hvor han beskæftigede sig med corporate foresight.
