From 2-6 July 2012, the PhD summer school, STEEP, will take place for the second time. 50 PhD students and 10 senior scholars from across the globe are set to participate in the summer school, which will focus on sustainability in environmental and economic psychology.

This will give the participants a unique opportunity to collaborate with senior scholars in their own field.

- The participants will work on real sustainability issues. We are cooperating with NRGi, Midttrafik, COWI, ProjectZero (Sønderborg Municipality) and the Danish Agriculture & Food Council (Landbrug & Fødevarer in Danish), who will present the participants with consumer behaviour-related sustainability issues that they are struggling with. The participants will work on research solutions to solve these problems, says Geertje Schuitema, Postdoctoral Scholar and co-organiser of the school, and continues:

- We hope that by facilitating participants to work on real sustainability issues, we can inspire both the PhD students and the senior scholars in their daily work on sustainability, and in the long run inspire them to solve these kinds of sustainability issues.

Summer school will put Denmark on the map
It is the first time that Aarhus University, Business and Social Sciences hosts the STEEP Summer School. According to Geertje Schuitema, the large number of PhD students and scholars from across the globe participating in the summer school will help put Denmark and Aarhus University, Business and Social Sciences on the on the map when it comes to sustainability research.

- Aarhus University can really benefit from organising STEEP, because it will create new contacts with Danish organisations that deal with sustainability issue, but also because the summer school attracts future international collaboration partners, says Geertje Schuitema.
